Yarn Over Slip Stitch Tutorial

Supplies You’ll Need

Scrap yarn of your choice. My purple yarn featured in the video is Berocco Comfort, which is a worsted weight yarn made of Nylon and Acrylic blend fibers. It’s so soft, I love working with it! You can buy some to try on LoveCrafts HERE.

A crochet hook that matches your yarn weight. I’m using a Furls Streamline Wood hook in the H/5.0mm size. These are my favorite, if you don’t love them already you can buy one here to try. Your hands will thank you!

Yarn Over Slip Stitch Crochet Tutorial Video

Written Instructions

To follow along with the video exactly as I am doing it, you’ll need to make a small swatch of single crochet first.

Chain 11, and sc in the 2nd chain from hook and across. [10 sc]

Chain 1, turn, and sc across the row.

Repeat until your swatch is big enough to feel stable- mine was 8 rows but you can use a skinny 2-4 row swatch, too.

Chain 1, turn, and you’re ready to start practicing the yarn over slip stitch.

Yarn over, and insert your hook into the stitch.

Yarn over and draw a loop through the hook, then slip that same loop through the other two loops still on your hook to complete the stitch.

Continue across the row!

Now you’ll notice there are two strands of yarn at the top of the stitch as usual, but another 3rd loop behind it. If you want to practice crocheting in that third loop like I do in the video, then chain 1, and turn. Insert your hook into that 3rd loop, yarn over and pick up a loop, then yarn over and complete a single crochet. Repeat across the row.

When you are finished, you’ll notice there is a neat textured row of Vs on the front of your work!
