The crochet lemon peel stitch is a lovely, reversible stitch texture that’s easy enough for a beginner to try, but gorgeous enough that I still use it in crochet projects all the time.
Another name for the Lemon Peel Stitch is the Seed Stitch, as it looks a lot like the knitted seed stitch, too.
This easy crochet stitch for beginners looks amazing on all types of projects, from crochet hats, to blankets, and more!

Supplies You’ll Need
Scrap yarn of your choice. In the video, I’m using a worsted weight acrylic yarn from Lion Brand called Vanna’s Choice, in the Honey colorway. This is one of my stash yarn favorites! Get it online from Lion Brand Here.
A crochet hook that works well with your yarn- I’m using a Furls Streamline Wood Hook in the H/5.0mm size. Buy one here- these are SO good for crocheters with hand pain issues!

Written Instructions for the Lemon Peel Stitch (aka Seed Stitch)
Chain an odd number of stitches. (Technically, it’s a multiple of 2 chains, plus 1 turning chain.)
Work a single crochet into the 2nd chain from your hook.
Then, work a double crochet into the next chain.
Continue across, *single crochet in the next stitch, double crochet in the stitch after that,* across the row.
To work another row, chain 1 and turn, then continue as before: *sc in next stitch, dc in next st.*
Patterns that use the Lemon Peel Stitch
Want to try this stitch in a pattern? I have a lovely dishcloth that uses this stitch called the Simple Seed Stitch Dishcloth here. Or if you’re in the mood for a hat, try the Lemons Chemo Cap. You could also make a magic potholder that uses this stitch texture here!
