Traditional quilt blocks inspired this fun textured crochet blanket square. The bobble stitches add so much interest with no pesky color changes needed.
Materials
Yarn Needle; Scissors
Abbreviations
Ch- chain; Dc- double crochet; Sk- skip; Sl- slip; St- stitch;
Gauge / Finished Size
12” x 12” square after blocking.
7 dc and 3.5 rounds in 2” square.
Special Stitches
Bobble: (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch indicated, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 5 times, yarn over and pull through all but last 2 loops, yarn over and complete stitch.
Notes
This blanket square is worked in joined rounds from the center, and the “wrong side” of the work will face the front of your blanket.
Turning chains do NOT count as a stitch throughout.
Quilt Block Bobble Square Pattern
Round 1: Ch 4, sl to form a ring, ch 2, (dc 3, ch 2) 4 times, ch 2, sl st to top of first st to join. [3 sts per side]
Round 2: Ch 2, dc 3, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc, bobble, dc, across next 3 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc, bobble, dc across next 3 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 3 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, sl to first st of round to join. [7 sts per side]
Round 3: Ch 2, dc 5, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, bobble, dc in next 3 sts, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, repeat * to * across the next side, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 7 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 2 sts, sl st to first st to join. [11 sts per side]
Round 4: Ch 2, dc7, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, bobble, dc in next 3 sts, bobble, dc in next 3 sts, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, repeat * to * across the next side, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 11 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 4 sts, sl st to first st to join. [15 sts per side]
Round 5: Ch 2, dc in next 9 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, (bobble, dc in next 3 sts) 3 times, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, repeat * to * across the next side, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 15 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 6 sts, sl to first st to join. [19 sts per side]
Round 6: Ch 2, dc in next 11 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, (bobble, dc in next 3 sts) 4 times, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 19 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 8 sts, sl to first st to join. [23 sts per side]
Round 7: Ch 2, dc in next 13 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, (bobble, dc in next 3 sts) 5 times, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 23 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 10 sts, sl to first st to join. [27 sts per side]
Round 8: Ch 2, dc in next 15 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, (bobble, dc in next 3 sts) 6 times, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 27 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 12 sts, sl to first st to join. [31 sts per side]
Round 9: Ch 2, dc in next 17 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, *dc, (bobble, dc in next 3 sts) 7 times, bobble, dc,* (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 31 sts, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch-2 space, dc in next 14 sts, sl to first st to join. [35 sts per side]
Round 10: Ch 2, dc in next 19 sts, work 5dc in ch-2 space, *dc in next 35 sts, work 5dc in ch-2 space,* repeat * to * twice more, dc in next 16 sts, sl st to first st to join. [40 sts per side, or 160 sts in final round]
Finishing:
Fasten off and weave in all ends. Block lightly.
