Finding a great mens crochet hat pattern can feel like finding a needle in a haystack sometimes! But finding a free crochet hat pattern for men with style and texture isn’t impossible, just a bit difficult!
That’s why I’m focusing on sharing some awesome textured crochet hat patterns for men free on my blog. This simple herringbone stitch crochet hat pattern is a perfect place to start.
After you crochet this hat, you’ll know how to crochet the herringbone double crochet stitch. (Sometimes it’s called the Herringbone Half Double Crochet, too.) This stitch is perfect for dude hats because it adds really neat texture without being too lacy or frilly.

What does “working through 3rd loops” mean?
Katie says

Can you please explain the instruction *hdc in next 4 sts, dec,* rpt * to * around, sl. [40(50,60)]count/6*5
when starting the brim, I don’t understand 4 hdc sts, then Dec? decrease how many, where)
Thank you for the lovely pattern and responding.
Ella Stutchman says
Of course. So that is hdc in next 4 sts, dec (hdc) in following st, and repeat the hdc in next 4, decrease in next st. Please let me know if this doesn’t help. In total, you should have 6 groups of *hdc in next 4 st, dec in following stitch* or [40(50,60)] stitches in total at the end of the round.
