Even a beginner crocheter could tackle this easy crochet market bag, because it only uses simple crochet stitches. Plus, it’s just fun to make!

Materials
I/5.5mm Crochet Hook (or hook to meet gauge); 1 skein Lion Brand Yarns Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn, Light [3] weight, 50% cotton, 50% polyester yarn, 7oz/200g; 392 yds/358 m, shown in Chai Latte colorway, approx. 300 yds/150 g used; Yarn Needle; Scissors
Abbreviations
Ch- chain; Dc – double crochet; Fsc- foundation single crochet; Sc- single crochet; Sk- skip; Sp- space; St- stitch;
Gauge / Finished Size
11 st and 7 rows double crochet per 4”. Finished bag measures approx. 13” wide and 16” tall, excluding handles.
Notes
This bag begins at the base in joined, unturned rounds. Once you reach the lace section, you will work in joined, turned rounds. Then you will work the handles in continuous rounds, and the sides of the bag are filled in with rows of sc to create a consistent look.
Coquina Beach Crochet Market Bag Pattern
Ch 38.
Round 1: Work 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next 34 ch, 2 dc in last ch, continuing around to the opposite side of the ch, work 2 more dc in last ch, dc in back bump of next 34 ch, work 2 more dc in last ch, sl to join. [76 dc]
Round 2: Ch 2, work 2 dc in first st, dc in next 36 sts, work 2 dc in next st, work 2 dc in next st, dc in next 36 sts, work 2 dc in last st, sl to join. [80 dc]
Round 3-4: Ch 2, dc in same st as join and each st around, sl to join. [80 dc]
Lace Sides of Bag
Round 5: Ch 2, dc in same st as join, *ch 2, sk 2, dc in next 2 sts,* repeat * to * around until 3 sts remain, ch 2, sk 2, dc in last st, sl to join. [40 dc, 20 ch 2 sp]
Note: from this point forward, remember we are working in turned rounds.
Round 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in last st of previous round, *ch 2, sk 2, sc in next 2 sts,* repeat * to * around until 3 sts remain, ch 2, sk 2, sc in last st, sl to join. [40 sc, 20 ch 2 sp]

Rounds 8-27: Repeat Rounds 6-7.

Handles
Round 31: Ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, fsc 60, sk 32 sts, sc in next 8 sts, fsc 60, sk 32 sts, sc in last 4 sts. [136 sc]
Round 32-36: Ch 1, sc in each st around.
Evening the Sides of the Bag
Row 1: Attach yarn with a sl st to first unworked st of round 30, ch 1, sc in next 32 sts. [32]
Rows 2-3: Ch 1, turn, sc across. [32]
Break yarn, fasten off and weave in end, then sew sides to base of handles with your yarn needle.
Repeat for the opposite side of the bag.
Finishing
Fasten off and weave in all ends. Block as desired.
