Sometimes, the best crochet projects come from easy crochet patterns for beginners. There’s not anything fancy about this little Boho crochet purse pattern, but it’s still packed with style!
You can make this easy crochet purse pattern in just about 90 minutes, with just about 90 yards of yarn. (That’s less than one skein, if you use a solid color!)
The stitches are all classic double crochet, with just a few increases and decreases per row to make the crochet chevron pattern. But it’s all one easy-peasy, one-row repeat! Can you believe how simple it is?

Really, the magic of this little purse is in the details. I chose to use a really long fringed tassel on mine to help the flap stay closed with a bit of weight.
If tassels aren’t your thing, contrasting fringe, or even a fancy button or toggle would make an excellent substitute. Boho crochet purses are so fun because you can customize them like that. Let your free spirit take the reins.

H8/5mm Crochet Hook
2 skeins Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton Yarn (1 Ecru, 1 Jade) 100g, 186 yds, 100% mercerized cotton, Worsted (4) weight yarn.
Leather and Chain Purse Handle
My favorite part of this purse is actually this leather and chain handle! I got it on Amazon HERE and have been so happy with it.
If you made my Bonnaroo Boho Bag, you’ll have seen it before- I love it! Even better, if you buy one handle, you can switch it out between the bags as you please- or even customize it to match different outfits.

- The turning ch 2 does not count as a stitch throughout pattern.
- Purse is worked in rows as one continuous piece, then seamed up the sides to form the pouch and flap.
With Main body color (Ecru) ch 31.

- Fold beginning edge up, and top edge down to create the shape of your purse.
- Fold the flap back up, then pin together the beginning points to the body of the bag with your stitch markers. (I pinned mine after row 27.)
- Turn pouch inside out, sew each side with a yarn needle and 2’ strand of main color yarn.
- Cut (8) 12” long strands of yarn for a tassel. Fold them in half, and attach to the point of the flap with a lark’s head knot.
- Chain approx. 32” for a strap. Fasten off, slip through the corners of the purse, and double knot to secure them.

I love this purse, it has such a summery feel. Thanks Katie!
Thanks so much for leaving that kind word for me! Glad you like it!
Hello I’m fairly new to crochet but would love to try this purse. When it says “Dec across 3 and 4 chain from hook”, do you mean double crochet decrease? And the same Dec in row 2?
Thank you for your reply
Yes! That’s exactly correct. You’ll make a Dc2tog decrease in those spots.
