Can I share something? We are OFFICIALLY closer to Christmas this year than to last Christmas. Can you believe it? That means it’s finally Christmas Hat Crocheting Season!
My friend Heather and I got to talking recently. Now, we know that it’s summer, and there are zillions of amazing beachy patterns out there to make. But both of us are really looking forward to fall, and cool weather crocheting.
We were sure we couldn’t be the only ones! Every year in our favorite Crochet Groups on social media, we hear people panicking about unfinished Christmas gift lists, and all-night crochet sessions to finish gifts. I know I’m guilty of this! Last year, I even sent out IOUs to a few folks!
So we thought it’d be GREAT fun to host a Christmas in July Crochet Along! But, since it is still ridiculously hot, we decided that hats were just the thing to make!
We’ve rounded up 8 of our best crochet buddies to share a free crochet hat pattern with you to make for Christmas. And who knows, maybe some of them will have a coordinating project to share for when the cool weather finally does return.
I am SO excited to finally get ahead this year! So let’s talk details:
Who Will Be Featured in the CAL?
The amazing Heather from the Unraveled Mitten will be hosting this CAL with me, Katie from Salty Pearl Crochet. We will have 6 incredibly talented designers joining us, including:
Nicki, from Nicki’s Homemade Crafts
Sarah, from Rich Textures Crochet
Kayla, from KMT Crochet Creations
Kirsten, of Kirsten Holloway Designs
Carol, from Sweet Potato Crochet Creations
and last, but certainly not least,
Enter the Giveaway!
From now until August 16, you can enter a giveaway I’m hosting to celebrate this CAL! I’m giving away 2 Digital $20 Joann Gift Cards, and there are some premium pattern giveaways included as well!

How Can I Join In the Fun?
Joining the CAL really just means hooking the project with us. You don’t have to do more than that, but it’s SO much more fun with friends!
I invite you to join us in my Salty Pearl Crochet Circle or in the Unraveled Mitten Crochet Club to ask questions, share photos and compare yarn choices.
You could also upload your project to Ravelry, by clicking the “Hook it!” button on the pattern listing. That’s a fabulous way to help out your favorite crochet designers, and share your tips and comments on the pattern to help out other crocheters.
Or, if you prefer, share your photos on Instagram. You can tag me @SaltyPearlCrochet and use the hashtags #ChristmasHatCAL and #SaltyPearlCAL so we can find each other!
Will it be free?
You bet! All our designers have generously agreed to offer you a free crochet hat pattern. Most of them are new, never-been-seen patterns, too!
Please thank them by leaving comments and likes or sharing on your favorite social media, or just by sharing your projects with them! It really encourages us to keep creating with you!
However, if you prefer to crochet on the go, most of the designers offer convenient, ad-free printable PDF copies of their patterns. You can find those details on each pattern page.
At Salty Pearl Crochet, I offer PDFs, but I love to treat my fans. If you’d like to subscribe to my newsletter for updates, and get a free Ravelry Coupon Code for my Shop, you can sign up here! There will probably be a special deal in my email during the CAL, too!
Have any more questions? Comment below!
I’ve done my best to answer just about everything I can for you, but please feel free to leave a blog post comment if you have any other questions!
Thank you so much for supporting Salty Pearl Crochet! Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information about the pattern. I love seeing your creations on Ravelry or Instagram (#SaltyPearlCrochet), and I am always happy to offer pattern support for all of my crochet patterns as written.
You are more than welcome to sell any finished items made from this pattern. Please use your own photos and credit Katie Clary as the designer. Links back to my blog post are greatly appreciated! Please feel free to share this pattern by directing others to this blog post or the Ravelry listing, NOT by distributing the pattern or photos as your own.
