The first time I heard the phrase “mug rug,” I knew I had to make some! These cute and oversized coasters are so handy.
They’re perfect for gifting, since they’re cute and functional. Plus, they’re a great project for beginners who are learning to crochet, too!
My version of a mug rug uses simple lines of single crochet stitch worked in one direction that will create a beautiful boho coaster for your home with no ends to sew in! (They become the fringe, and are simply trimmed to your desired length.)
Materials
Here’s what you need to crochet your own set of mug rug coasters.
J/6.0mm Crochet Hook. I prefer Furls Crochet Hooks, and used the Streamline Metal for this project.
Yarn Bee Prima Suprema, worsted [4] weight, 100% Cotton yarn, 3.5oz/100g; 180yds/165m, shown in Bone for the main body, and a variety of colors for the stripes: including Merlot, Marmalade, Mustard, Fern, Navy.
This particular yarn was discontinued, but if you want a good substitute, just about any worsted weight cotton yarn will do. If you want my recommendations, you can try any of these choices:
Scissors or a rotary cutter for trimming your fringe.
