Making crochet chemo hats to donate for charity can be incredibly rewarding! But sometimes, finding just the right balance of interesting stitches and smoother textures and yarns can be difficult.
This beautiful crochet beanie has beautiful textured stitching, but feels buttery soft and smooth on the inside.
The shell stitches in this hat are separated by rows of the crochet mini bean stitch. These subtle textures are perfect for chemo caps and winter hats.

Materials
The yarn you choose for a chemo cap should be especially soft to the touch. That’s why I love Lion Brand Coboo! The cotton and bamboo rayon fibers are buttery soft and smooth to the touch, and very nice to crochet with as well.

Hi Robin!
If you’re working on a flat circle hat, you can use my flat circle hat tutorial and size checker to increase the top in pattern. You can find that resource here.
Hope this is helpful! I have a big head and huge hair, so I had to learn this, too. 😀

Could this pattern be adapted to baby/preemie size?
Do you have any suggestions for doing that?
Katie says
Hi April! I’m working through my patterns to update and fill out sizing, but I haven’t gotten to this one yet! If you’re brave to experiment, you can try looking at my Flat Circle Hat Size Checker, there’s a preemie size on it. I would have to spend some time making one myself before I try typing it out here, though!
Hope that helps,
Katie
