We love going to the pool in summertime, but my daughter is always impatient to get in the water.
So I wanted to make her a really quick crochet pool cover up to wear instead of her regular street clothes.
When I got the chance to partner with Hobbii yarns for a summer quickie project, I was SO excited! Seriously, the stars aligned for me!
You can check out the rest of the Summer Quickies CAL patterns HERE.
Disclosure: Hobbii sponsored this post by providing me with free yarn for this project. Thank you, Hobbii! All opinions are my own.
I’ve had my eye on Hobbii yarns for a while now, as the color choices are just gorgeous, and they have a great selection of natural fiber yarns that are affordable AND gorgeous!
My daughter requested purple, and there were too many beautiful shades to choose just one.
Since I wanted the skirt to be really lightweight, I decided to choose Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/6. This yarn is a fine [2] weight yarn.
I also paired it with a really nice open mesh stitch. That makes the project fly by so quickly!
The yarn is so soft and nice on the fingers- it was definitely a treat compared to the last few dishcloth patterns I made with regular cotton from the clearance section.
Since it’s quite slick, I used my favorite wooden hook, my Furls Streamline, which is super comfy on the hands. I tend to prefer wooden hooks when working with softer cotton yarns like this!
How much yarn do you need for a girls’ sized Crochet Sarong skirt?
For a half sarong skirt like this with string ties, I used much less than 330 yards / 300 m. I haven’t made the largest size yet, but by my math calculations, it should still only take 3 balls of yarn (one in each color), but you may want to crochet the ties before finishing your first color section if you’re worried about having enough.
Below is the exact Materials list I used:
Materials Needed
G/4.0 mm Crochet Hook – I recommend a Furls Streamline Wood for this project.
3 skeins Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/6; Sport [2] weight, 100% cotton yarn, 50g and 105 m per ball
The sample shown is made with one ball each of colors 63 (A), 65 (B), and 71 (C)
Yarn Needle and Scissors for finishing your project.
Abbreviations
Ch- chain; Sc- single crochet; Sk- skip; Sp- space; St- stitch;
Gauge
There are 4 repeats and 5 rows in 3” unblocked.
However, if you’re not into swatching, and have extra yarn, gauge really won’t affect this project much.
I’ve included measurements below in a size chart, and repeats are worked to length, not row counts.
Pattern Notes
This skirt is worked in one piece from the waistband down.
The ties are added after completing the skirt.
