One of my crochet bucket list goals has been to make an easy crochet cardigan pattern for beginners. I really think that crochet sweater patterns can be easy and fun.
So, today, I have a very special crochet pattern on the blog for you. What is it?
An Easy Crochet Cardigan Pattern for Beginners!
This beautiful and easy crochet cardigan pattern for beginners makes an excellent introduction to crocheting garments. If you can double crochet, chain, and make a slip stitch seam, you can crochet this sweater!
Even better? Most patterns that claim to be “easy” crochet sweater patterns for beginners have a ton of complicated shaping- lots of counting and increasing and decreasing.
Not this pattern! There’s no shaping in the entire piece, and minimal seaming. What could be simpler!?

Make Sleeve
Step 1: Ch 1, turn, sl 10.
Step 2: Fold opposite end of panel [in front / behind] your stitches
Step 3: Skip 5 stitches from opposite unworked end, sl st together next st to the 6th st of opposite end, and continue to sl together for 29 more sts.
Step 4: Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Step 5: Flip pieces inside out to hide seams on the inside of the garment.
Crochet Back Seam
Step 1: Arrange longer back edges with right side together, sleeves and center edges touching.
Step 2: Make a slip knot with a new piece of yarn, and slip together the two bottom stitches.
Step 3: Slip together 49 sts. Your seam will measure approximately 16”.
Step 4: Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Block lightly if desired.
Quick Note: keep your slip stitch seam loose to avoid puckering at the seam. You can block it out if it pulls, but it can look like a little jog in the seam if you’re a tight crocheter like me.
PS- that’s a camera lens cap, not a snuff can, haha!
