This easy crochet lap blanket pattern features random stripes in fun and interesting textures. Varying the stitches, colors and stripe widths helped keep this larger crochet project interesting the whole way through.
You’ll find some of the filet crochet textures repeated throughout the blanket, to give it some repetition, but there are also unique texture stitches that only appear once in the whole lap blanket.
This pattern is the perfect charity donation, as it’s full of interesting texture, free of fringe, and just the right size to cover a lap without being too warm or getting caught in a wheelchair.
What is the standard size of a crochet lap blanket?
This lap blanket pattern measures about 36″ x 48″, which is on the large end of the standard lap blanket sizing.
Most crochet lapghan sizes range from 30″ x 40″ to 40″ x 48″. As long as it’s big enough to cover your legs, it’s probably a decent sized lapghan. If you’re donating to charity, the organization or your club may have even more guidance for you.
How many skeins of yarn do you need to crochet a lap blanket?
This particular lapghan used parts of 3 skeins of Big Twist Rainbow Classic bulky [5] weight yarn. The total yardage of the blanket was between 900 and 1200 yards.
