Classic shell stitches are perfect for so many things – blankets, coffee cozies, bags and kindle sleeves like this one.
The Shell Stitch is my favorite crochet stitch- and it’s easy enough for even a beginner! Plus, I’ve got a video stitch tutorial to help, too.
Shell Stitch Tutorial Video
Watch a stitch tutorial for the Shell stitch if you’ve never tried the stitch before. If you can make a single crochet and a double crochet, you’ve got this!
Materials
G/4.25 mm Crochet Hook I prefer to use a wooden crochet hook with cotton, and my favorite is the Furls Streamline. You can get one here!
A bit of Caron Cotton Painterly Cakes Yarn, Worsted [4] weight, 60% Cotton and 40% Acrylic Yarn, shown in Fondue colorway. You also can use any weight yarn you’d like or have on hand by simply adjusting your stitch count as long it is in multiples of 6 + 2
And of course, you’ll need your yarn Needle and a pair of scissors for your final end.
And you can’t forget your kindle or e-reader. This kindle is my favorite.
You will use very little of this skein but stay tuned for the other goodies we will make with the same skein of yarn!
Abbreviations
Ch- chain; Dc- double crochet; Sc- single crochet; Sk- skip; St- stitch;
Finished Size
The Scallop Shell Kindle Sleeve finished size is 7 inches tall by 5 inches wide.
Notes
This pattern is customizable in size so that you can ensure a perfect fit for your e-reader. You can even change the weight of yarn if you’d like. You can adjust accordingly by changing the starting chain count. You will just need the count to be multiples of 6 plus 2.
Turning chains do NOT count as a stitch throughout.
Stitch counts at the end of each row use shells and half shells for ease of counting. See special stitches section below for clarification.
The pattern is specific to the Caron Cotton Painterly Cakes and sized for a 10th Generation (2019) Kindle.
